West Fork Carson River - (Tall County)

Getting There

The Due west Fork Cason River is a slow moving meadow stream that starts at the Lost Lakes near Blueish Lakes and to begins to choice upwardly menstruum at Pickett's juction equally the terrain begins to decline towards the Nevada border. I prefer to fish downstream of the bridge at Pickett'south Junction so I detect parking near this surface area and walk. Pickett'south Junction is the intersection of highway 88 and highway 89, s of Lake Tahoe.

The Hike

There is some minor hiking if you wish to travel downstream to new holes on the W Fork Carson River. The search for pocket water could get you moving. Or, you could plant a lawn chair on the bank and fish there. There seems to be a lot of both going on. Bear in mind, the elevation is 7000 feet at Pickett'south Junction, and so dehydration and altitude sickness are still valid considerations.

The Angling

The West Fork Carson River is a put-and-take fishery that is regularly planted with trout including some that range from 5-7 lbs. The West Fork Carson River is planted all summer until the flows get too low or the water becomes also warm.

REPORT - June 4th, 2016

Fishing on the West Fork Carson River was slow for us this twelvemonth with only ane fish landed. We fished the area downstream from the Woodford's bridge and managed to land only 1 fish using salmon eggs weighted down with a couple of carve up shot. The water was running high and a flake stained merely we found a practiced run about 100 yards downstream from the bridge.

We saw only ii other anglers downstream from us and information technology looked every bit though they were striking out besides. This spot is very pop equally in that location are always cars parked hither but at that place was but i other vehicle when nosotros were there. In that location is a trail that parallels the river for ii hundred yards at to the lowest degree, but nosotros did not follow it all the way to the finish.

Perchance improve fishing was waiting downstream just the lord's day was dying and nosotros were tired from driving and angling so we fabricated our way back to the gild in Markleeville having landed only ane tiny fish.

REPORT - Oct 19th, 2014

Before I go angling on the West Fork Carson River I talk to Todd at Todd's Allurement and Tackle. Todd will tell you where the all-time fishing is since he'due south the guy who plants them.

The fishing on the Westward Fork Carson River was practiced this Oct for planter Rainbows in the 12-xx inch range. Globe-trotting bait like salmon eggs or crawlers works well with these fish. Finding the pocket water is the proper name of the game. Flies piece of work also late in the season. I observed some guys using flies just I did non see them land whatsoever fish.

After packing up and leaving, we stopped to have a photograph at the span. I looked downwards and saw iv trout looking to exist about 2-3 pounds each on the westward side of the bridge. There were about 5 guys casting to these fish who appeared to be very uninterested.
